A great place for schools
Nestled in the heart of Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, David Fleay is a wildlife park with a difference! As one of only two Queensland Government owned and operated wildlife parks, our focus is not only on our wildlife, but the conservation of their habitats and the education of all those who visit.

Our school excursions feature environmental education activities linked with the Australian Curriculum, including topics such as habitats, animal adaptations and life cycles. Your students will experience Queensland’s natural environment through educational talks, wildlife presentations, interactive experiences with native animals, and self-guided walks. We have programs for preschool to year five, and activities can be tailored to suit your educational needs.

Our activities include:

- Education talk with a Park Ranger
- Wildlife Presentation
- Self-guided walk around the Park.

Please refer to our website for further details on the various curriculum linked programs available: https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/parks/david-fleay/things-to-do/schools

A wide range of program options are available for schools from self-guided through to curriculum linked wildlife presentations delivered in one of our immersive education spaces

Visit a wildlife park with a difference! Nestled in secluded bushland in the heart of Queensland's Gold Coast, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service's (QPWS) David Fleay Wildlife Park is home to many native animals. Here, animals are displayed in surroundings similar to their natural habitats. Enjoy local native animals as well as threatened species seldom seen in the wild.

This wildlife park has a long tradition of breeding and displaying Queensland's native animals. The QPWS manages David Fleay Wildlife Park as an environmental education facility, to stimulate community awareness, appreciation and understanding of native wildlife and to inspire people to share in their conservation.

The program of daily wildlife presentations is an ideal way to learn about Queensland's unique native mammals, birds and reptiles.

See some of our states most fascinating creatures including:

- the endangered southern cassowary from the rainforests of North Queensland
- the playful platypus
- freshwater and estuarine (saltwater) crocodiles
- the near threatened Lumholtz's tree- kangaroo
- yellow-bellied gliders and endangered mahogany gliders
- the wedge-tailed eagle
- a variety of snakes ... to name but a few.

In the nocturnal house, you can see some of our most unusual and elusive native animals, from the endangered greater bilby of the inland deserts, to the secretive Julia Creek dunnart, which is also endangered. This is where the platypuses are on display feeding on their diet of crayfish and worms.

Explore the park on your own or join one of the special activities for visitors. Guided walks are a highlight with knowledgeable rangers and volunteers on hand to provide interesting facts and stories about the native plants and animals on display.

David Fleay Wildlife Park has special ranger-guided environmental education and cultural awareness programs tailored for school groups. Curriculum-based programs are available for students from pre-school to Year 12. Special programs are available for tertiary students and English as a second language (ESL) students.

The main focus points of the education programs are threatened species, habitats and animal adaptations, life cycles and food webs. Programs for secondary and tertiary students can also focus on classification, biodiversity conservation and the adjacent mangroves along Tallebudgera Creek. Books are essential and fees apply. The booking includes a QPWS ranger as the tour guide.

Aboriginal cultural edcuation programs may be available upon request.
